Fair Food Co enters into an equity partnership with a 100% black-owned consortium of investors with the experience and shared passion to enable the business to scale its inclusive development model nationally.
FAIR FOOD FARMER DEVELOPMENT
Fair Food Foundation secures grant funding from eThekwini Municipality and Old Mutual Foundation to roll out an ambitious farmer development program in eThekwini to reach and support 150 commercial and emerging farmers over three years including establishing a farmer and agro-processing academy at the Mariannhill GlobalGAP farm.
FAIR FOOD FARMER TRUST REGISTERED
Fair Food Farmers Trust is registered as an independent non-discretionary trust. The Trust houses the shareholding and interests of supplier farmers. Farmers are vetted and supported to become commercial suppliers to the Company through the Farmers Academy managed by the Foundation.
FAIR FOOD CO FOOD SERVICE LAUNCHED
Fair Food Co launches into the Food Services sector by supplying fresh bulk and processed vegetables sourced from its Foundation farmers and bulk markets to corporate canteens, hospitals, manufacturers, hotels and restaurants, processed at its HACCP certiﬁed factory in Mariannhill.

The Fair Food Company (Pty) Ltd is registered to engage in commercial competitive production, processing and trading of vegetables. The company is structured as a social enterprise. Shareholders include Fair Food Foundation, Fair Food Farmers Trust and Fair Food Founders.
EDAMAME INDUSTRY GROWTH
An eThekwini Municipality & Jobs Fund Grant sees the planning and establishment of a new non-GMO Edamame Industry in South Africa supporting emerging farmers to supply quality product for processing at Mariannhill and supply into high-end retailers.
EDAMAME PILOT FUNDED
An eThekwini grant supports the piloting of Edamame (Vegetable soybean), the pilot determines Edamame can be successfully grown in South Africa, Emerging Farmers are prepared and able to grow Edamame, and markets are interested in purchasing Edamame.
AGRIHUB PILOT ESTABLISHED
The Foundation conceptualises and establishes the Umbumbulu Agrihub, funded by RuralABM. The success leads to three further Agrihubs established together with Corporates and eThekwini Municipality grant funding.
FOUNDATION SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
A 2 hectare Permaculture demonstration site and skills centre is developed in Newlands East, KZN to support sustainable agriculture development skills of KZN communities using Permaculture techniques and tree planting programs.
Fair Food Foundation (NPC) formerly Newlands Mashu Community Development Centre is registered as a Section 21 Business & a registered PBO (Public Beneﬁt Organisation) with grant support from the Franciscan Mission and the Catholic Church.
